Instructions on connecting to CSC using FreePPP 2.6.2 connection software

FreePPP 2.6.2 connection software is a program needed by your Macintosh to connect to our server, and is  available for download from the Downloads section.

System Requirements:

    OS 7.1 - 8.1 
    Modem inside or attached to your Mac computer 
    Modem attached to your phone line with call waiting disabled

Follow the instructions related to every picture. 

This is the first window of the Install FreePPP software. Use the NEXT button  at the lower right of each window to  proceed to each next step. 
 
 

Click Next.

FreePPP Drive Selection
Select the Installation configuration either Easy or Custom Install and the destination drive. 
 
 
 

FreePPP notice. This is a standard Mac OS procedure, click on OK. 
 
 
 

This screen shows the installation progress.
 
 
 

A notice that the  software has been installed successfully. Click Next 
 
 
 

Configuration progress. Click Next
 
 
 

Click on Restart to restart the computer.
 
 
 

Setup of FreePPP 2.6.2

Click on the FreePPP icon in the FreePPP folder

Click on the arrow in the bottom left corner of the PPP window 
Click on the "General" tab 

 
 
 

Click the OPEN TCP/IP button 

In the "Connect via:" section, select FreePPP 
In the "Configure:" section, select Using PPP Server 
In the "Name server addr:" section, type the following lines: 

              193.188.47.67 
              193.188.47.250

In the "Search domains:" section, type the following three lines: 

           csc.um.edu.mt 
           um.edu.mt
 

Close the TCP/IP window 
 
 
 

Click on the "Accounts" tab.

 

Click the EDIT button.
Click on the "Account" tab. 

In the "Account name:" section, type CSC 
In the "Connect:" section, select Directly and replace cscuid with your own CSC id and password.
 
 
 

Click on the "Dialup" tab. 

In the "Area code:" section, type 356
In the Phone number section enter : 

21863310 :if you are a WebSave subscriber.

21883310 :if you are connecting through the standard dial-up service.

3998 : if you are connecting from your office on campus.  

Please make sure not to check the box to use the area code. 
 
 
 

Click the "Options" tab. 

In the "Domain name:" section, type um.edu.mt
In the "Primary DNS:" section, type 193.188.47.67 
In the "Secondary DNS:" section, type 193.188.47.250 
In the "IP address:" section, put a dot in the circle to select "Assigned by PPP server". 
Click the OK button when finished. 
 
 
 

Click on the "Modems" tab. 
Click the EDIT button. 

In the "Connected to:" section, select "Internal Modem" if your modem is inside the computer or "Printer-Modem Port" if itís external. 
In the "Port Speed:" section, select the number that matches the speed of your modem, then click the OK button when finished. 
Add X3 to the modem init string settings.
 
 
 

Click the CONNECT button to dial-in. 
When you are connected, notice the little telephone icon in the upper  right         corner of the screen shows the phone is off the hook. 
Once connected, you can run other programs like Telnet, Netscape, Fetch, etc. 
When finished, quit the Telnet, Netscape, Fetch, etc. program you are using. 
Click on the little telephone icon and  select Close PPP Connection to logout  and close PPP.
