Services offers the following combination of virus protection
measures to members of staff, departments and students:
- [1] Anti-virus Software
IT Services supports the use of F-Secure
anti-virus software. F-Secure is available for:
- Windows 95/98/Me
- Windows NT/2000 Pro
- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- This software can be installed on all computers
owned by the university. F-Secure can also be installed on home
computers by staff and students.
- [2] IT Services Anti-virus Mail
Gateway
- All incoming and outgoing e-mail to/from IT
Services mail servers is scanned for viruses. Any e-mails containing
known viruses are automatically stopped and both sender and mail
recipients are informed by e-mail about any quarantined messages.
- The IT Services anti-virus gateway is not intended
to be a replacement for anti-virus software on the users personal
computer. Its purpose is to provide an added protection to users
against viruses. Viruses cannot be detected by the anti-virus mail
gateway if received through other mail and Internet services or if
transferred to computer using other media such as diskettes etc.
