- The IT Services has negotiated a
University site licence for SPSS software. The licence covers use of
SPSS for academic
purposes. The software is available only
for staff and students of the University.
- The current SPSS version available from IT Services
is SPSS
16.0 for Windows and includes the following modules: Tables
(Original), Advanced Statistics, Regression Models (Professional
Statistics), Custom Tables, Trends, Categories, Conjoint and Exact
Tests.
- System Requirements
- SPSS 16.0 for Windows
- Operating System: Microsoft® Windows XP
(32-bit versions) or Vista (32-bit or 64-bit versions)
- Hardware: Intel® or AMD x86 processor
running at
1GHz or higher
- Memory: 256MB RAM or more; 512MB
recommended
- Minimum free drive space: 450MB
- CD-ROM drive
- Super VGA (800x600) or higher resolution
monitor
- Web browser: Internet Explorer 6
- Installation
- IT Services offers two installation options
for MS Windows users:
- If the computer is on campus, IT Services staff
will be
able to come over and install SPSS.
- If the computer is off campus, an SPSS
CD and an installation code will be provided. Members of staff who want
to use one licence code for their office and home computer can try out
the SPSS dongle option.
- Costs
- A charge is levied for every
SPSS installation or licence code renewal.

- Note that:

The 1-year licences expire at the end of December
irrespective of the month of the year when the licence is purchased.

The cost of the SPSS for Windows licences
varies according to the month when the software is installed or when
the licence code is renewed. 6-month licences expire at the end of June
or for 6-month period from June to December. 3-month licences expire
after 90 days from installation date.

A €46.50 (Lm19.96)
deposit is requested for
every dongle issued. This deposit is refunded in full within 4 weeks
following the return of the dongle.

The dongle option is not available for 6-months or
3-months SPSS for Windows licences.

- Payment
- The following payment options are accepted:
- Cheque - This should be
addressed to the 'IT Services'.
- University Purchase Order (PO) -
Staff are requested to present a PO approved by the Finance Office.
- Academic Work Resources Fund (AWRF)
- Staff are requested to present a written approval by the AWRF
Committee. The licence charge will be automatically deducted from the
personal academic work resources funds allocation.
- Upgrades
- The charges indicated in the previous section cover
SPSS upgrades released during the licence period. Dongle users are
requested to pay €2.30 (Lm0.99)
for each update CD throughout
the licence period.
