    The CSC, in collaboration with the Department of Statistics & Operations Research, has set up a new computer lab at the Maths & Physics Building (top floor). The lab is equipped with 57 workstations, scanning and laser printing facilities. Users can also use their portable devices to connect to the campus wireless network service. Access to these computing facilities is available to all staff & students registered to use CSC workstations ...more information.

    The CSC is pleased to announce the launch of the MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA) programme at the University of Malta. MSDN AA enables eligible staff and students to use the latest MS development tools, operating systems and server software for academic related purposes. Lecturing staff & students following study-unit/s that are offered by the IT departments can download the software on their office and/or personal computer using their CSC User Id. The software is being provided at no cost as part of the agreement between CSC and Microsoft. The software can be downloaded here.

    The CSC is hosting GÉANT2 NREN Project Consortium and TERENA General Assembly meetings on the 19th and 20th October 2006 respectively. The GÉANT2 network is the largest IP network ever built for Europe's research and education community. TERENA is an association of organisations that are involved with the provision and use of computer network infrastructure and services for research and education in Europe.

    The CSC has been instructed not to accept SMGB (Stipends) card payments after 26th July. The scheme is expected to be in operation again as from September 2006.

    The CSC has reduced the cost of all A4/A3 printing costs with immediate effect. CSC Lab users can also benefit from even further reductions when printing on both sides of an A4 page - duplex printing. The CSC encourages all users to opt for duplex printing as appropriate in order to conserve paper... more information.

    Further to the staff seminar "Fighting Plagiarism" held on May 5th, the Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) in collaboration with the CSC, will be conducting a pilot study on the use of plagiarism detection applications. The results of this pilot study will assist the QAC in identifying the plagiarism detection application that may be adopted by the University of Malta.

    Academic staff interested in participating in this pilot study (May/June 2006) are invited to send an e-mail by not later than Fri 19th May. A short briefing session will be held for interested staff.

    The CSC and the Library are pleased to announce that wireless access to the campus network has been extended to reading areas in all three floors of the Library. Students and staff making use of the Library can now use their own laptops, or other mobile devices that support wireless, and do their research by combining access to hard copy books and periodicals with access to online material on the Internet and electronic search facilities of Library periodicals.

    It is now also possible to print while connected to any CSC Wireless Hotspot. Other wireless hotspots are available at the CSC Main site and the University House (Canteen & Junior Common Room). Other locations are in the pipeline.
